Higgins Mountain Wind Farm Phase I
Location of Three Units at Higgins Mountain

The three existing turbines on Higgins Mountain were constructed in late 2006 as a test phase of a larger wind farm.  A new power line was built connecting to the NSPI 25 KV distribution lines in the Wentworth Valley along Highway 4.

Prior to construction, an environmental assessment was conducted and the project was approved by the Minister of Environment in Fall 2006. A copy of the environmental assessment report can be downloaded here. The Minister’s approval stipulated follow-up study of the potential impact on birds and bats, plus erosion and sediment control, and such studies have been ongoing.  For enquiries in regards to these studies, Graham Findlay can be reached at (613) 769-1300.

The site is situated about 2 km south of Westchester Station, in a mountain range called the Cobequid Mountains. The City of Truro is approximately 40 km south and Halifax is a further 60 km south.
