Projects
3G currently has a project pipeline of mature wind projects representing over 30 MW of nameplate capacity and 40 MW of solar projects. All of these projects can be under construction within 12 months subject to financing. Solar Energy Projects The Government of Ontario recently introduced a Feed in Tariff program for solar projects that represents the highest rates in North America. Coupled with the fact that Ontario has strong solar resources, this makes this program one of the most attractive renewable investment opportunities in the world. 3G has submitted FIT applications for seven projects to take immediate advantage of this program. Project 1 is a 50 kW rooftop solar project on an prominent Ottawa office building. ![]() 3G is actively soliciting commercial landlords in respect of the potential to place solar projects on rooftops of commercial and industrial buildings. Management of 3G has a long track record in the commercial property management industry and is well versed with the challenges of roof-top work and the concerns of building owners about such activities. A future potential project is a 6 MW ground-mount solar project on a former landfill site in Eastern Ontario in partnership with Energy Ottawa, a subsidiary of the local electricity utility. There is also potential for a wind turbine at this site. ![]() First Nation Wind Energy Projects We are consultants to several Canadian First Nations and are helping to guide them through the development process. We also have the opportunity to joint venture these projects. This includes the M'Chigeeng First Nation, proponents of a small wind farm on Manitoulin Island, Ontario. We have worked with M'Chigeeng since 2005 guiding the project through feasibility study and environmental assessment stages. We are also advisors to the Alderville First Nation in respect of a ground mount solar project they applied for under the Ontario Feed In Tariff program. In a similar fashion we are advisors to Long Lake 58 First nation, also for a ground mount solar project. Slipform Concrete Wind Turbine Tower Project We are members of a consortium proposing to create a wind turbine on a 120 meter concrete tower. The project's unique design element is a technique that eliminates the need for a large crane to hoist the turbine components, because the hoisting systems are integrated into the concrete forming process. This design will enhance the economic viability of small projects (5-6 turbines per cluster) in mild wind regimes such as Ontario. A prototype project is planned for 2010 on a 100 meter tower. This project was supported by the Canadian federal government under a capital grant provided by Sustainable Development Technology Canada. A brief project description document can be downloaded here. Wind Turbine Construction Video Building a wind turbine is a fascinating process. We arranged a stop action photo shoot at our Higgins Mountain construction site, and had it edited into a brief video. It's very instructive. Download it ...here (This is a huge file, 25 Mb, so please be patient). The contents of this site are ©2010 3G Energy Corp |
